Fatigue Management in the Workplace FAQs

  • What Exactly is Workplace Fatigue Management Training?

It’s more than just talking about being "tired." Our Workplace Fatigue Management for the Workplace program provides a structured approach to identifying, assessing risks, and mitigating the dangers of fatigue as a professional.

It covers the science of sleep, the impact of shift work, and how to build a workplace culture where safety comes before "pushing through."

  • Is Fatigue Really a Major Safety Risk in Australian Workplaces?

Undoubtedly. In Australia, fatigue is a significant factor in workplace incidents, particularly in high-risk industries like transport, construction, and mining.

However, it’s just as relevant in office environments where burnout and cognitive errors can lead to costly mistakes.

Under Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws, employers have a legal duty to manage the risks of fatigue just as they would any other physical hazard.

  • What do Participants Learn in Fatigue Management for the Workplace?

We move beyond the theory to give your staff actionable tools they can use immediately.

    Key takeaways include:

    • Recognising the red flags: Identifying the subtle physical and mental signs of fatigue in themselves and others
    • The biology of sleep: Understanding circadian rhythms and how to manage sleep debt
    • Smart scheduling: Tips for managing shift rotations and demanding workloads
    • Reporting culture: How to foster an environment where staff feel safe to report when they are too fatigued to work
    • Healthy lifestyle choices: The right foods to fuel on, shopping for energy, healthy habits at work and at home
  • How Does Fatigue Management Link to Mental Health?

They are closely related. Chronic fatigue is often a precursor to or a symptom of poor mental health and burnout.

By addressing and minimising fatigue, you are proactively supporting your team's psychological wellbeing. A well-rested team is a resilient, focused, and mentally healthy team.

  • Is This Course Suitable for Both Managers and Frontline Staff?

Yes. The core principles of fatigue management are universal, and managers and staff will both benefit from attending to learn how to identify, risks-assess, and mitigate fatigue in the workplace.

Our instructor is a qualified health professional who provides information and protocols that apply to anyone in the workplace.
